A Letter to Samson

Dear Samson,

You are what we think of above all. Our life changed with you in my tummy and not just because our shopping basket consisted of salt and vinegar crisps! We could read, prepare and talk about your arrival endlessly but I don’t think we really had any idea that our world was about to be turned upside down.

Before you came along Daddy and I would watch my tummy and guess what body parts we could see and feel moving. We would try to guess if you would be like me or Dad – his tenacity, ambition and above all his love and devotion to his family. He is such a wonderful person. My favourite. You will grow up to admire and trust him. He will tease you and make you laugh. He will teach you things and care for you deeply. He may be overprotective at times but I ask that you respect him. I now share his heart with you and it is our duty to look after him and love him well. We are lucky to have him.

You’ll realise soon enough that life may not always seem fair but it will be so much better when you get over that. Always look for the positive in every situation and you will see how amazing and beautiful life can be anyway. We hope that we will be a good example example to you. We may not be perfect but we are going to love you like crazy. Your smile warms our hearts and brightens every day and we wish nothing but happiness for you. Please continue to go through life smiling and life will smile on you.

You’ll never know how much joy you have brought to our life and that of your extended family already. We are proud to be able to call ourselves your Mama and Dada.
