Our Comune di Fiesole Marriage Ceremony

On 24 May 2016 Shaun and I made it legal. 3 1/2 years after we first met. And one child later, we did it. In Italy there are only two options for getting legally hitched. A catholic church or a town hall. We chose to have our civil ceremony in a little town in the hills overlooking Florence, close to our villa. We’d been told that the ceremony at Comune di Fiesole would be a mere formality but it ended up being one of my favourite moments of the entire week. It was so relaxed with Shaun, Samson and I arriving and walking in together with our guests. And the Mayor who conducted our ceremony was so warm and friendly. The ceremony was conducted in Italian with an English translator for our benefit. I believe that it had to be conducted in Italian by law as the Mayor’s English was really very good. After the ceremony we were able to take some photographs on the balcony overlooking the piazza before hopping back onto our bus to head to Villa di Vignamaggio for a wonderful wine tasting lunch. More on that to come.

A huge thanks to Alex Mason who took the majority of these photographs.
